Indian Railway gets it's most Powerful Engine
Indian Railway gets it's most powerful engine, it's not the fastest, named WAG 12B. In a trial run, it pulled 108 wagon at the speed of 80-100 kmph. It pulled approx 6000 tons or 6000000 kg. It's trial run successfully conducted at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Station. It made under the Make in India project & made in Madhepura, Bihar.
The project was started in 2015 under make in India program to make India's Powerful train engine. For this Indian Railway contacted with Locomotive Manufacturer French giant Alstom along with the Madhepura Electric Locomotives Pvt Ltd. Alstom is a Locomotive manufacturer giant, France based company, known for it's quality & engineering. A MoU has signed between India & France to make 795 WAG 12B in Madhepura, Bihar. And it was the largest FDI of railways worth 3.5 billions Euros or 25000 Crore Rupees on that time.
The manufacturing unit started in April 2018 in MELPL Madhepur. The power of WAG 12B has 12000 hp. Under the agreement, 5 engines imported from France & the rest 795 will make in India. The WAG 12B is a variant of WAB 12. India Railway will get 35 engines at the end of 2020, 60 engines at end of 2021 & 100 at the next year thereafter till the order is completed.
It will run under two important freight corridor-
1. Western Dedicated Freight Corridor from Mumbai to Delhi,
2. Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor from Howrah (Kolkata) to Delhi.
It will bring major foreign companies by ease of transportation & better infrastructure. By this engines transportation of goods will be easy & attract companies to build their plants in these two Freight Corridors. It will also produce thousands of jobs in Madhepura, Bihar.
